Greetings, how is everyone on this lovely Friday afternoon? I feel great! I just taught a drum lesson to a new student, and getting ready to bike to the gym. I'll be hitting the Roxy tonight to see some friends bands perform. I'm definitely not going to be driving tonight that's for sure : ). The last time I wrote a blog was when we'd just got home from the Summer Kamikaze tour. First off I'd like to thank everyone for making it out to the shows, and for the amazing hospitality you offered us. You all know who you're, and if you get a chance to read this I sincerely thank you from the bottom of my heart. It seems so long ago since we last played live. We needed the break for many reasons. It's been really productive over the past several months. We're about to release the new 6 song EP titled Saving August Divine. The songs came together really quickly once we were back in writing mode. RD and I got to work once I was back from vacationing in Canada. I personally wanted to create a musical, heavy, epic sounding record without getting to progressive. I'm a rocker at heart but I'm also into tons of jazz artists, latin, and blues. I'm currently listening to bands like Muse, Porcupine Tree, Guns n Roses "Chinese Democracy", even Journey. I love how their records take you on a journey from start to finish. In my opinion that is what songwriting is all about. Every song is a bit different from the previous track. It's tricky because you can lose your listener trying new things like this, but in this case with the current recordings we really did the opposite. RD went with a concept idea for the record, and I think that brings the songs together well. My personal favorite is As Dawn Approaches. When RD first started playing the opening chords I was like "what is that"? It was really beautiful, and the experience of writing the songs has brought us closer than ever before. There's a sense of respect, love, fun and concentration happening at rehearsals these days! Hands down we're tighter than we've ever been. I can't wait to unleash this beast on all of you!
